Approximately 40% of hospital deaths in Malawi are attributed to malaria, with approximately 110 individuals dying daily. In 2010, Global Concern distributed 3500 mosquito nets across 22 villages in Malawi aiming to reduce the occurrence of malaria. Mosquito nets are the most effective means of preventing malaria and saving lives. In 3 years the project was able to reduce malaria prevalence by over 90%. A mosquito net costs just $10 and can provide protection for 2 adults or 1 adult and 2 children for 2-3 years. Learn more...
Sadly there are not enough nets for everyone. Recipients of mosquito nets are selected by local committees who prioritize nets for orphans, the elderly, disabled, women with young children, and those with HIV/Aids. Each individual signs off as they receive their net, to ensure the nets reach their intended recipients.
