On the 20 December 2009, a scale 6 earthquake tore through Karonga, northern Malawi.  Over 300 people were wounded and 4 killed. Around 1,000 houses collapsed and a further 2,900 houses sustained damage. Global Concern provided relief packages which supported 156 households in the Karonga community with maize, beans, plastic sheeting and clean drinking water.
